Wow, Father’s Day is almost here…seems like Mother’s Day was yesterday! I do not have a clue what to get my step-dad. I was reading an article earlier about gift ideas, and apparently rings are a hot item to buy fathers. My step-dad doesn’t wear rings, including mens wedding bands, so that’s out of the question. It will probably be something fishing related, since that’s what he eats, sleeps, and lives.
I was thinking about baby showers the other day, and how at most of them I have been to, all the soon to be moms get large quantities of the same things…diapers, wipes, outfits, towels, etc. I think I am going to start buying less popular baby gifts, because sometimes new parents don’t get things they need, even if they place them on their registries! I am going to start looking for baby bedding, highchair, or a crib…you know, the higher priced things on the list. If I get a couple of people to go in with me and buy things like this, it wouldn’t cost much more than a couple of outfits and a pack of diapers!
For baby showers, I always like to get lots of small, inexpensive items that the new mommy will need. For coworkers or people at church, I might fill a gift bag with some baby lotion, shampoo, and body wash. For family members, I usually do a bit more. Sometimes my mom and I go together so we could get more. When my brother and sister start having children, I think it would be a good idea to stuff a bassinet or crib full of things like diapers, wipes, clothing, bottles, some cute baby bedding, and anything else on their gift registries. Bassinets and cribs would hold tons of stuff, and of course, they can hold the baby once he/she gets here!
When you go shopping for baby gifts, what do you usually buy? Do you purchase a few cute outfits, or do you buy the things that new babies will quickly run out of, such as diapers, wipes, etc.? I usually like to fill a small gift bag full of items. I feel like I put more thought into buying a few little things rather than one big thing. I will usually buy one outfit, then add a bottle of baby shampoo, lotion (I love the smell of baby lotion!), and wipes. I may even throw in a bib or a teething ring.
When giving Christmas (or any other kind of) gifts, I like to purchase something that the person receiving the gift would truly find useful. It usually appeals to his/her interests, and may even be something he/she asked for earlier in the year. I have been thinking of what to buy my mother, since I can't think of anything she has specifically requested. I am thinking about getting her a digital photo frame, so she can share all her photos. This woman is addicted to photography, and always has a camera in her hand. With a digital frame, she could show off her pictures without having 100 different frames to dust every week, or having 5 albums to store. She could still have the hard copies at home, but I believe a digital frame would be a nice addition for her office, where she has less shelves for items such as photos.
Since my site is down, and I don't update this thing nowhere near as much as I should, I am going to spend the next few minutes filling this box with words. The only thing I have to talk about lately is the wedding, and after October, I don't know what I'll be able to blog about then...*cries about her overly normal existence* Anyways, all of our wedding details are pretty much done now....just waiting for the big day. I found out my dress isn't going to be ready until the 6th, which will be exactly one week until my wedding. In a way, I think that's cutting it a little close, but the seamstress assured us it would only take one day to make the entire thing, so I'll have some time to try it own and get any alterations done the week before the wedding.
Sometime this weekend James and I are going to go look for luggage, since I realized that we don't have anything to carry 5 days worth of clothes and other essentials for our honeymoon. My grandmother is going to buy us a set as a wedding gift. I really like this set on JC Penney.com, but since we are buying from the store and not online, we may not be getting that one, but something similar.
Thought I’d write a lil something before I went to bed, so here goes….
I still have not received my Wii game. I am getting a lil irritated, especially since the seller didn’t respond to my email I sent on June 15th. I sent her a 2nd email today, pretty much saying the same thing as the first, though I emphasized that this was my 2nd time trying to contact her and I would really like to know where my game is. Maybe I’ll hear something tomorrow. If not, I’m, thinking about contacting ebay.
My mom came by the house today and brought the curtains and throw pillows my aunt made for our bedroom. She used a shower curtain identical to the one in our master bath to make the toppers for our bedroom windows, and used the what she had left over for pillows for our bed. She also made the toppers for the living room & dining area. They all look really good! My aunt is so creative. I really think she needs to go into interior design or catering, since she enjoys doing that stuff, but she hasn’t yet….
Bad News - My site is down...AGAIN!! James pulled up the online tech support, and started talking to someone on there to see what the problem was. They are having issues with the same server as last time....which I am assuming is what all my stuff is on. They said it was corrupted again, and they are going to look at this, this and this, and replace this or that....And they should be able to fix it within 18 hours...Yay! *rolls eyes* I am seriously thinking about looking for another host. I haven't been with them long, but still.... I just want my site to be up!!
Now for some good news! My other two birthday gifts from James came in the mail today. (I have already gotten my Georgia Bulldog Fossil watch & a sweet lil letter telling me that he pre-ordered the last Harry Potter book for me!) I got The Whole Mr. Bean Series box set & Alf: Season One. These are both shows I used to watch when I was younger, and I have been wanting to get them on DVD for a while. I have even been looking for them on eBay back before my birthday...but I slacked off on that since I did put them on the birthday wish list I gave to James. He always asks for a list every birthday & Christmas, so he knows I will like what he got me...since I asked for it! Kinda takes the fun out of wondering what I am getting, since he usually only buys from the list...But it's okay, just means I won't have to return anything!!
